Philippa's Birth Story Baby Anabel, born July 10, 2004
Philippa delivered baby Anabel in four pushes, after being induced and opting for an epidural.
So baby Anabel made her appearance on Saturday night at 8:05 pm... she is very very sweet and quite tiny... weighing in at 6 pounds 1 ounce... but very tall.
So she is a bit of a bean pole...
My water broke late Friday night... but no contractions... so one of my worst case scenarios arose... but as you know... you can imagine things one way, but the reality is always waaaay different.
I didn't want induction, but I found myself in a situation where I had no choice. So we had to accept it and go forward. Actually wasn't bad in the end. I labored pretty heavily for about 8 hours... having strong regular contractions every two minutes. Needless to say I was getting pretty tired as I couldn't leave the birthing room and was all hooked up to monitors the whole time..
I wasn't really dilating (3cm) and I opted for an epidural cause I was so exhausted. And I was worried I might no be strong enough to push when the time came (which was looking a long way out...)
Well the opposite happened! I got the epidural and thought okay I can sleep maybe , but instantly I had this tremendous painful urge to have a bowel movement. I think I called them Ass contractions. The nurse said hmm.. check me out... and I had instantly dilated to 8 cm.
She said great you will deliver in about 2 hours. But then the urge to push was INSANE! I told her this (cause they said don't push) and she checked me again. I was 9.5 and then five minutes later I was fully dilated and the baby was right there (this was 15 minutes after they gave me the epi!).
My doctor was not around, they said she was on her way and would be there in half an hour. They turned off all the petocin and I had to fight this urge to push for 45 min (which was harder than the labor in many ways!). Finally she got there and I pushed 4 times and IT felt great ! Anabel was delivered in under 15 minutes.
Awesome...
I am in great health...
But she is super super cute and we couldn't love her more. By the way... the Doula was awesome. I highly recommend one. Her name is Sivan. Paul was great too and he is such a lovely dad.
